Plus, he's coming off a T-12 last week where he kept it under par all four rounds)

PGA: (Before I tell you my picks, I have to say that even I was surprised that I'm ranked 110th! Granted, there's probably less than 25 K player and probably less than 10K that take it seriously. But that's still pretty darn good! Anyway, enough tooting my own horn...
Perry
Austin
Watson
Perez
Kelly
Merrick (although I was kind of tempted to go with Kuchar here to mix it up)

And because I went very chalky here (not only against my personal tastes, but I aslo try to go a little aggressive in the PGA game) I'll go with JP Hayes as my tiebreaker. Had a 2nd place here last year, has won it before, and has the course record. For a long shot, I like it....

Southpawhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10104601020213857582noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1345822367806856530.post-64820378464045505572008-06-25T10:25:00.000-05:002012-04-27T11:28:20.628-05:00Strausberg Picks the Buick Open

CBS:
Leonard
Furyk
Slocum-Been quite hot lately. And he's first in proximity to the hole.
Mize-You know I like to go a little agressive on CBS. But Mize has won here and cashed in all six of his recent starts here including 4 Top 26 finishes. Why not?
Streelman-He's been white hot lately.

Yahoo:
Furyk
Verplank-He won in 98 and has cashed in each of the last eight years at the Buick, including a T-5 last year and T-4 the year before. He's accurate off the tee (6th) and is 1st on tour in proximity to the hole in approaches from 125-150 yards (he's 4th in overall proximity).
(But it is tearing me up not being able to take Snedeker here. I am VERY tempted....)

Mark Wilson-Looking to save some guys. He hasn't missed too many cuts this year and wanted at least one local guy. He's the only one I found.
Rocco Mediate-He won here in 2000 and losing to Tiger in OT aint bad for your last appearance.
Leonard
O'Hearn-Hoping to steal some points here on my leaguemates. I like him to do well this tournament. Didn't love too many options closer to 11 anyway. The one I considered was Billy Mayfair, because he had the course record but that felt even more agressive than Rocco. So I went with the sentimental pick....

Mark Strausberg has been playing fantasy sports since back when Jose Canseco was a first round fantasy pick and not a 'best-selling author'. Sometimes life gets in the way of your best intentions, but nothing was going to stop me from missing the US Open!

There seems to be only one question surrounding this US Open.... To Tiger, or not to Tiger?

This is a very difficult decision for me. First this is the longest US Open course ever, by nearly 400 yards. Not only is it long, it's Torrey Pines, which Tiger is about two wins away from having it renamed "Tiger Pines." Finally, do you really want to bet against Tiger at a major?

Then again he is coming off knee surgery, and he hasn't played in a tournament since the surgery. I also have to throw in some personal experience. I have never had knee surgery, but I do have a knee that is somewhat of a time bomb. About five years ago, at the beginning of spring, I blew out my Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) while playing basketball. I ended up not having surgery to rebuild the ligament because my knee was still pretty stable and my quality of life was not diminished by it.

Despite that decision my knee wasn't close to 100% for at least a year. I remember golfing that summer, and just not feeling like my game was right. Walking the course got to be a difficult about midway through the round, and crouching down to read a put was difficult.

Ok, I know that was way too long, but long story/short, don't think a knee injury is something that just goes away after a couple of weeks. I know Tiger is in a hell of a lot better shape than I was, but when your knee is creaking and barking, and your range of motion isn't what you are use to, 18 hole of golf, times four, can take a toll on you.

So am I starting Tiger this week?
No and Yes. It depends on the game. I don't feel like he is a no brainer, but I also doing feel like I can ignore him. ESPN: No. Yahoo: Yes. I'm not digging it--I had Anythony Kim at almost a million and half lower than his current salary. But that's how the cookie crumbles (mmm, cookies!) Anyway, I have no choice and neither do you. So, here's who I'm going with this week:

Furyk-The Colonial is not a course for the bombers but those that have high GIR, aka, guys like Jim Furyk. He was the runner up last year and I'm hoping the trend of runner-ups winning the following year continues.

Justin Leonard-Gotta go with at least one Texas guy. Leonard is the choice.

Nathan Green-He's not playing poorly and two top 5 finishes the last two years at the Colonial. That's too strong a history to ignore.

Nick O'Hearn-I got a budget of 10.1 left after the first three. So, I'm grabbing O'Hearn at an even 10. He's playing pretty well-a T-20th at the AT&T and finished 12th the last two years at the Colonial. For that price, I'll take it. And FYI, I originally put Nicholas Thompson in. I only mention it because if you like the "Guys that Strausberg Almost Chose but Didn't Theory" (a strategy that often works quite well), he's not a bad pick.
Kim is on my bench because I couldn't afford him, but you should not use him anyway. Please, don't choose him. He's not that good. (because dammit, I want to win that grand prize!)

Yahoo:
As: Furyk and Mickelson. See above for Furyk and Mickelson has won the Colonial before and is one of the highest ranked players in the field this week.

Bs: Leonard and Green-See Above. Campbell is on my bench, but I'm choosing him because of the Texas connection and the fact that he has the course record (along with five others) And you never know, he just might show up. I know he's not much of a dark horse, but he's my dark horse selection. And I'm also going with Bryant because he's been playing well lately (two Top 3 finishes in his last five starts) and what do you know, he's from Texas also.

Cs: Perry He's playing well and has won twice here, including being the holder of the tournament record. That's enough for me. And Frazar, because sooner or later, he is going to play well in a Texas tournament. Why not this one.

CBS: (And remember, I pick much more aggressive in CBS)
Choi-3 Top 25s in his last three Colonials. And I like to spread my picks around.

Kim-Because he was amazing at the Heritage and would not be surprised to see him win another tournament.

Ames-Plays well at the Colonial in even years (3rd-2004 and 4th-2006).

Pavin-A two time winner here.

Colt Knost-There's aggressive, very agressive, and then there's picking Colt Knost this week. Would not be surprised to see him in DFL this week (the D stands for dead and the L stands for last, you can figure out what the F is for). But I just have this feeling about him this week and of course I have this unexplained need to go deep in my selection. But hear me out--he played at SMU, so he's got the Texas connection. And his record backs him up, playing his best golf in Texas tournaments. He's 11th in Driving Accuracy on the PGA tour as well. And in the Cowboy state, i feel like riding a Colt....

PGA:
Lefty-See above

Furyk-Wait, I can have both? Cool. See above.

Sabbatini-Have't picked him yet and I do like to have the returning champion selected somewhere

Ames-See above

Hart-Back to Back Top 10s earlier this year and has been in the Top 10 twice here.

Crane-I'm still bitter about him withdrawing at the last minute last week, but I'll ride him one more time.

Verplank-I had to take a Texan again, didn't I?

Mark Strausberg has been playing fantasy sports since back when Jose Canseco was a first round fantasy pick and not a 'best-selling author'. Mark's work has appeared in newspapers, magazines, and of course the talentedmrroto.com. He wishes he could play golf as well as his analyzes it, but he has also been known to suffer from "paralysis by analysis". Mark would also like to thank the Hooker for this opportunity, but he's worried that his wife might find out and not understand. Cool!"
"Yeah, but I hope you like Timothy Dalton".

A Pool
That's what picking the As are like this week in Yahoo. I can live with no Tiger or Phil or Scott or Singh. But no Verplank, no Choi, no Furyk, no Snedeker, nor my favorite Boo Weekley. Heck, you can't even choose the fun to say Vance Veazey. So I went with the obvious pick of ZJ (Zack Johnson). Originally when I picked my lineup earlier in the week, I was kind of excited to finally pick Kevin Na because I like his game, but he's not usually worth using as my A and this was a golden opportunity. So of course, he withdraws. I ended up choosing the rook, Jason Day, whom I rode earlier in the other games to much disappointment. But just in case he decides to play well, I'll have him on my team. But you're probably better off going with the other rookie, Nick Flanagan. But if you want someone who has actually won a tournament, go with Chucky Three Sticks, but he's dead to me....

B Pool
You want to start him on your bench? Fine. But if you don't include Cink on your team this week, you're an idiot. He DQ'd himself and missed one cut this year. Outside of those two tournaments, Cink's worst performance was 26th. He's #3 on the money list. Has 6 top 10 finishes this year already. (That Woods guy can't even say that!). And oh yeah, he played in college at Georgia Tech and has a home at Sugarloaf. Do you really need anymore reasons?

Bubba Watson-One of my favorite players and I haven't used him yet this year in this format. Sugarloaf rewards those that can bomb and those that can putt. If Bubba gets his putter going (like he did in the US Open last year), don't be surprised to see him in one of the last groups on Sunday.

Imada-Another who played his college ball in Georgia. Maybe its the 2nd place finish last year, but just a hunch he gets back on track here.

Goosen-I know he hasn't played that well lately, but he won that thing called the US Open not too long ago and he won this event back in 2002 and had a T-4 place finish in 2006. I'm going to roll the dice with him.

C Pool
Crane-I like to play guys that own the course record. Crane does. And he won here back in 2003. And he had a T-6 in the deep field of the Players Championship.

Slocum-His record is not the best here, despite living in Alpharetta. But he's playing better lately, so I'll hope he keeps it up. But I'll be honest, I might make a last minute switch and go Shane Bertsch. He has 5 Top 25s this year and he finished T-7 back here in 2006.

ESPN
Watson-He's a carryover.
Imada-See above
Cink-See above
Baird-That's 7 Top 25 performances already this year and Top 10 finishes here both of the last two years. Given that it leaves me with just .1 million left that'll work!

CBS-Here's what I like to do in CBS--roll the dice on two minimums and use the remaining $850K on three guys. So the first one is Parker McLachlin. Made his last three cuts and finished tied for 16th place last year. Good enough for me.
Since the youngest Strausberg entered the world last week, I feel like going with someone young and new on the scene.-D. Johnson it is. Plus, that gives me enough money to choose Cink, Johnson, and Watson.

PGA-I should tell you that because this game has weekly prizes, I often go a little more aggressive here often choosing other players I like for the week that I haven't chosen yet.
Group 1-Nicholas Thompson. I like Imada and Cink more, but NTom (okay, maybe it doesn't work, but that's what I'm calling him) has six top 25 finishes this year and played at Georgia Tech. Just because I'm going aggressive, doesn't mean I can't be smart about it also.
Group 2-No one jumps out at me. Elkington has been playing well recently and he has a 16th place finish last year. Goydos will probably be the popular choice, but his track record for back to back success is non-existent.
Group 3-Crane. Almost went Baird. Not EVERY pick has to be aggressive.
Group 4-Goosen is probably the smart pick. But I'm an idiot-just ask my wife. So I'm going with Matteson who also lives in Alpharetta and played at Ga Tech.
Group 5-Byrd. Slocum and Flesch are tempting, but Bryd has finished in the top 10 twice here both of the last two years.
Group 6-ZJ. See above.
Tiebreaker-Villegas. The only player in the tiebreaker list that I like that I haven't chosen somewhere else.

Mark Strausberg has been playing fantasy sports since back when Jose Canseco was a first round fantasy pick and not a 'best-selling author'. Mark's work has appeared in newspapers, magazines, and of course the talentedmrroto.com. I think the extra rest might actually help him more. And I'll admit, I threw a 10 spot on him at 25-1 to win when I was in Vegas a few months ago. I'll be rooting hard for this one.
B. Watson-Southern Boy who can really bomb it and makes birdies. If it rains on Friday, it plays to his game.
J. Wagner-With only 6.2 left to spend, not a lot of choices. And honestly, I don't have a lot of faith in this pick. But if you're going to play the hot hand, for this price, it's hard to beat.

ESPN-Masters

I'm playing this much more aggressive than I'm playing the other games. For one, it is this tournament and that's it. Secondly, you can make a change to your lineup from one day to the next.
Phil-Everyone is going to choose Tiger and in Best Ball, players final standing is irrelevant. Even if it did, recall that Lefty has won the Green Jacket more recently than Tiger has. For 3 million less, I'll roll the dice.
Harrington-You know who is first, but did you know Paddy is 2nd in birdies?
Rose-I admit it, this is just a gut call. Fortunately, he does have the talent to hopefully make me look smart. And that takes some serious talent.
Langer-It was either him or Watson, both two time winners. Langer's been playing well and he won it more recently. I don't expect much, but he could make the cut and I would not be surprised to see him help on a hole or two.

Yahoo:
A
Woods-If you have to ask why, sorry to hear about your coma.
Choi-Carded a 3rd place finish in 2004. Wouldn't be surprised to see him in that range this year as well.

B
Cink-He's having a career year. I'm betting he keeps it up.
Goosen-Has finished 2nd at Augusta twice, including last year. What's good for the Goose is good for you too.
Appleby-Finished T-6th last year at Augusta and has 5 Top 10s this year.
Villegas-Has the distance and can also putt well. I like to have at least one "gamble" in my Bs and he's it.

C
Donald-The best player in Group C.
Couples-Playing really well right now, plays well at Augusta, and while Phil and Tiger might be more popular amonst the masses than Freddy, they have detractors and NOBODY dislikes Couples. Nothing wrong with going with the sentimental pick.

CBS Sportsline

Woods-If you have to ask why, you should know that I think the Amish people are amazing craftsman and you should be proud of your brethen's work. Scott-See above
Cink-See above
Couples-See above, but I can also have him at the minimum price? Giddyup!
Wagner-See above. But if you're not buying it and think $8,000+ is leaving too much money on the table, you could do a lot worse than Brian Bateman. He did win the Buick Open last year.

PGATour.com

Woods-The other guys are all pretty good choices, especially if you don't want to pick Tiger, but if you have to ask why then I didn't know that Amish people could suffer comas in caves....
Cink-See above, but I wouldn't fault you in the least choosing any of the other guys.
Sabbatini-The suits at CBS would love a Sabbatini-Woods final pairing. Ain't gonna happen. But its happened before...
Appleby-See above
Weekely-I probably should have gone with Harrington (see above), but I like to mix it up a little, and I stron....nope, not going to make that bad joke. But I do thoroughly enjoy rooting for the guy.
Goosen-See above, but seeing Snedeker in the Top 10 would not surprise me.

I have not had that bad of a week in fantasy golf in a long time.
It was so bad I don't want to talk about it anymore. Let's look ahead to this week's Shell Houston Open.

ESPN Best Ball Challenge

My Picks

Adam Scott - The defend champ.

Stuart Appleby – Appleby has been playing some great great golf this season, and his record here is great, with two victories and two second place finishes in seven tries.

Kevin Na – A bit of a gamble here as Na hasn't played well the last couple of events, but he's been solid here in the past, so I'm going to take a gamble.

Anthony Kim – Kim finished fifth here last year, in his only try at the Shell. With what he has shown this season, I think he is a great gamble this week.

Yahoo! It’s almost getting old to watch Woods take tournament after tournament. Meanwhile pundits, like me are basically taking stabs at who will finish second.
This week’s World Golf Champions CA Championship looks to offer much the same. Tiger has won here six times in the eight year history of this event. Oh yeah, and those two other years, he posted top 10s.
This is an absolute no brainer week to use Tiger. The challenge is to pick another top 5 golfer, or two.

ESPN Best Ball Challenge

My Picks

Tiger Woods

Sergio Garcia – Sergio has had a nice history here posting six top 10 finishes in eight tries.

Brandt Snedeker – This is Snedeker’s first time at this event. He is coming off a couple of strong finishes, and I think he is due to break off a solid top 10 finish.

Anton Haig – This South African kid came here last season and posted a decent 32nd place finish. He’s young (almost 22) and hits it long. For a cheap pickup, I think he is as good as anyone else.

Yahoo! Fantasy Golf
A Pool

Tiger Woods

Sergio Garcia

B Pool

Sean O’Hair – Ride him while he is hot!

Ian Poulter – Poulter has an average finish of 20th after four tries at this event.

Stuart Appleby – He’s been playing some great golf this season, and he has a nice history here, averaging 17th place in eight tries.

Ryuji Imada – It’s his first time here, but he’s playing some great golf, so I’ll take my chances.

C Pool

Niclas Fasth – Fasth finished 6th here last year, and finished 8th last week.

Lee Westwood – I’ve always liked Westwood, and after a strong 17th place finish last week, I’m happy to give him a go this week.

CBS Sportsline.com Salary Cap Cup
My Picks

Golfers Salary
Tiger Woods 300000
Sergio Garcia 261000
Anton Haig 75000
S.S. So, here are the basics. Tiger is back. So pick him and whoever you think will win second. Simple enough right?

Speaking of second, I’m not sure if you have noticed but the Hooker has picked the second place finisher each of the past three weeks! Granted, my “bottom of the order” guys haven’t been so hot, but that’s going to change this week!

ESPN Best Ball Challenge
My Picks

Tiger Woods – If I need to justify this, then we need to have a talk behind the wood shed.

ViJay Singh – He’s the defending champ, and I like the way he has been playing.

Chez Reavie – It’s a “Studs and Duds” week, and Chez’s name really is sticking out to me when I look over the bargain bin.

D.A. Points – He’s had two top 10s so far on the Nation Wide Tour and one top 25 on the PGA. For the price he could be a lot of bang for the buck.

Yahoo! Fantasy Golf
A Pool

Tiger Woods

Vijay Singh

B Pool

Stephen Ames – In eight tries here he’s been in the top 10 half the time. I like those odds.

Sean O’Hair – Was last week the start of a hot streak? I’m willing to ante-up to find out.

John Senden – Senden is another top finisher from last week. I figure if I throw enough against the wall one will stick, right?

Ryuji Imada – Besides having a nice showing last week, I like the way Imada is playing.

C Pool

Luke Donald – I think this is a no brainer pick.

Kenny Perry – You can’t argue with the way he has been playing!

CBS Sportsline.com Salary Cap Cup

My Picks

Golfers Salary

Tiger Woods 30000

Vijay Singh 290250

Stephen Ames 251250

Matt Jones 75000

Corey Pavin 75000

TOTAL $991,500

I’m changing things up here slightly. Jones and Pavin are both on my radar, so I figured I would give them a run. Pavin has had good success here over the years, and Jones is yet to miss a cut.

PGA Tour.com’s Pick’em

Tiger Woods

Vijay Singh

Troy Matteson

Kenny Perry

Brandt Snedeker

Matt Jones

Tie Breaker: Carl Pettersson

Wade “Southpaw” Alberty was a regular columnist for TalentedMrRoto.com, writing about both golf and baseball, while constantly partoling the forums, and he has also written for ESPN.com. Two weeks ago I picked the second and third place finishers. Then last week I topped that taking the second and first place finishers.
It seems there isn't much room for improvement this week. I guess the only thing I can do is add another golfer to the mix. So we'll shoot for three top 5 finishers this week at the PODS Championship.

ESPN Best Ball Challenge

My Picks

Ernie Els - He treated me well last week, so let's if he can keep the run alive.

J.B. Holmes - I like Holmes this week, and at this price he is a must.

Stewart Cink - Cink is playing some good golf this season, and he has had some decent success here in the past.

Ryuji Imada - Imada has had a nice season so far, and in two tries here he has a 13th place finish, though he missed the cut last year.

Yahoo! He's been making cuts this season and has the potential to make a solid run.

C Pool
My Picks

Kenny Perry – Besides playing some nice golf this season, Perry seems to love this event.

Joe Durant – Durant is feast or famine at this event, posting three top 10s in six tries and missing the cut twice.

CBS Sportsline Salary Cap Cup

Ernie Els
Mark Calcavecchia
Corey Pavin
Steve Sticker
Steven Marino

For the price, I love Pavin and Marino, and I figured I would throw Stricker out there, because as you probably know I'm a big fan.

PGA Tour.com Fantasy Pick'em

Steve Stricker

Ernie Els

Stuart Appleby

Kenny Perry

Mark Calcavecchia

Matt Jones

Tie breaker: Charles Howell III

These picks almost matched up perfectly with my previous picks. I apologize if I'm a little light on content, but you just come here for the picks, right?

Speaking of picks, I'm currently ranked 120th overall in the ESPN Best Ball Challenge. He's at the point where he is either going to miss the cut or put up a top 10.

Mike Weir – Weir has won here twice. You've gotta like that after his strong finish last week.

Anthony Kim – Kim had a solid top 10 here last year, and he is playing better this year at this point!

Yahoo! After a dismal season last year, it's good to see him playing well this season, but he is playing a lot better than that!

Retief Goosen – Goosen's first event of the year. Does he make a comeback this season? Well if he does it starts this week. I'll take a flyer on that!

C Pool
My Picks

Luke Donald – The C Pool has been a downfall for me this year, so I'm just going with a couple of names I like, thus Luke Donald.

Lee Westwood – Ditto for Westwood.

PGA Tour.com Salary Cap Cup
My Picks

Golfers

Salary
Rory Sabbatini

283750

Mike Weir

225250

JB Holmes

192750

Anthony Kim

186250

Kevin Na

101750

TOTAL

$989,750

PGATour.com Fantasy Pick'em

GROUP 1: Rory S.

GROUP 2: Vijay S.

GROUP 3: Kevin Na

GROUP 4: Mike Weir

GROUP 5: Charles Howell III

GROUP 6: Brandy Snedeker

Tie Breaker: R. So, I'm taking the week off.

I feel truly bad about this. I wrestled with this decision, but it's just the way it has to be this week.

Feel free to email me at Southpaw@Southpaw32.com if you have any questions!Southpawhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10104601020213857582noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1345822367806856530.post-78275880841159669372008-01-23T13:16:00.000-06:002008-01-23T14:45:16.210-06:00This has been a crazy week for me... New job, a couple of 12 hour days, blah blah blah...

Anyway, I am sorry this is coming out later than normal

Welcome back from the dead Justin Leonard! After last season, I had thought that we might never see Leonard rise to the top again, but obviously I was wrong. It will be interesting to see what the coming weeks bring for Leonard.

This week is the Buick Invitational, and since Buick pays Tiger Woods butt-loads of money, he will be there for sure! Phil Mickelson will also be gracing the tour with his presence this week. So, we have a little more star power this week.

Ok, I'm running late enough with this column, lets get to the picks!

ESPN Best Ball Challenge

My Picks

Tiger Woods – Tiger is 10 for 10 in top ten finishes here, with an average finsh of 2.9. Nevermind that fact he's won here five times.

Phil Mickelson – When Tiger isn't winning this event, Phil is...well not always, but still Phil is a solid play at this event.

Chez Reavie – Chez has made a nice entrance onto the PGA Tour this season, after a nice season on the Nationwide Tour last year. He finished 5th last week after posting a solid 32nd at the Sony. If he comes through again this week he will be a killer value!

Anthony Kim – Kim kept last season's good play rolling with a third place finish at the Bob Hope. I'm going to keep riding this kid until he proves me wrong.

Yahoo! Fantasy Golf
A Pool
My Picks

Tiger Woods

Phil Mickelson

OTHER: (NIX THAT! He just withdrew!) KJ Choi – Choi seems like a solid play after what he did at the Sony.

B Pool
My Picks

Justin Leonard – Is he for real this season? Let's find out!

Anthony Kim

Stephen Ames – Ames has two top 10 finish thus far, so why not see if he can keep it rolling.

Dustin Johnson – Fresh out of college, fresh on the tour and tearing things up! Johnson has posted a 12th and 10th place finish in two events in his rookie PGA campaign. This could be the start of something big!

C Pool
My Picks

Chez Reavie

Kenny Perry – I thought Perry might not be a factor this season, but it only took his second tourney of the season to prove me wrong. Let's see if he can keep going after his third place finish last week.

PGA Tour.com Salary Cap Cup
My Picks

Golfers

Salary
Tiger Woods

300000

Phil Mickelson

296750

Anthony Kim

196000

Dustin Johnson

92000

Chez Reavie

75000

TOTAL

$959,750

All the same suspects as listed above, and with over 40k left on the table. I'm struggling right now with getting different formats/programs to play nice together, so I apologize if things look a bit out of wack. I am trying to get this out ASAP due to the Wed start!**

We won't speak of last week. It wasn't the best week for the Hooker, then again it wasn't that bad.

This week is the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic at the Bermuda Dunes Country Club, Bermuda Dunes, CA.

This is a FIVE-day event, with the first round starting on WEDNESDAY, so get your picks in EARLY!!!

Besides being five days, this is also a pro-am, so you will get to see a lot of familiar faces the first couple of days. With the extra day and the amateurs playing alongside, many pros are not a fan of this event and the potential distractions. Because of that I strongly recommend looking at a players history at this event!

I'm short on time this week, so enough talk...

ESPN Best Ball Challenge

My Picks

Chad Campbell – He's off to a nice start this season, and he won this event in 2006.

Scott Verplank – Verplank always seems to play well at this event, showing that the distractions don't bug him. After his great season last year I think he is a solid play this week.

Stewart Cink – This is Cink's first event of the season, so a bit of a gamble, but I think he is one of the "biggest" names at this event, so I'll give him a go.

Anthony Kim – He had a decent showing here last year, well before he went on his hot streak. What will 2008 bring for the young Mr. Kim? I don't know, but I'm anxious to find out!

Yahoo! Fantasy Golf
A Pool

My Picks

Kevin Na – I like the young Na, and have for the last couple of seasons. He's still young and still shows a lot of promise. He also seems to be streaky, and with a solid finish last week I'm hoping this is the upswing of a nice streak.

Scott Verplank

B Pool
My Picks

Chad Campbell

Stewart Cink

Anthony Kim

Daniel Chopra – As I said before Chopra seems to be a streaky golfer, and with his good play the first two weeks, I'm going to use him again.

C Pool

My Picks

Steve Marino – Marino had a strong showing last week, though his 4th round was disappointing. Regardless I'm going to ride him again.

John Rollins – He placed second here last year. That's good enough for me.

CBSSports.com Fantasy Golf Challenge
My Picks

Golfers
Salary

Scott Verplank
296750

Kevin Na
75000

Anthony Kim
91000

Chad Campbell
241500

Mike Weir
287000

TOTAL
$991,250

I was just $4000 shy of being able to afford Cink, so I took Weir instead. Na and Kim are great value!

PGATour.com Fantasy Pick'em

GROUP 1
Scott Verplank

GROUP 2
Boo Weekley

GROUP 3
John Rollins

GROUP 4
Anthony Kim

GROUP 5
Chad Campbell

GROUP 6
Troy Matteson

TIE BREAKER
Kevin Na

Not many surprises here I am sure. Weekley missed the cut last week, but I think the kid will bounce back. Matteson has looked good so far, so I'll give him a go as well.

Wade "Southpaw" Alberty is a lifetime golfer. He's worked in the golf industry and played intercollegiate golf.
